BAYC Comes to Life With PureArts Physical Statue

Displaying intellectual property licensing opportunities by utilizing NFTs from of various community members.

The Web3 space continues to prove that NFTs are more than just static jpegs that sit on a phone. One of the most recent examples of this is PureArts Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) physical collectibles.

Its figures are an example of the power of licensing intellectual property (IP), with each being licensed for production by community members.

The Figures

Made possible through the support of the NFT licensing platform BoredJobs, the owner of BAYC #1356 “Bored Space Ape,” and the owner of BAYC #778 “Bored Captain Ape,” have effectively licensed their owned IP for a merge of the physical and digital worlds.

Each statue is created on a 1:8 scale and was voted into production by the BAYC community. Thanks to Yuga Labs IP policy, any BAYC owner can similarly license their tokens.

Both the Bored Space Ape and the Bored Captain Ape figures will include NFC chips embedded into the base, which will enable collectors to connect their Web3 wallet, claim an accompanying digital token of their physical, and act as a means of authenticity. Digital tokens are also said to have plans for future unlockable benefits and will include various rarities.

“As an NFT Collector myself, it was important to have a different approach than our licensing deals with gaming or movie brands,” shared Arnaud Perez, the Managing Director of PureArts, adding “this project must be community driven and it’s for this reason that I quickly reached out to BoredJobs to explain my vision and my project. We are very excited by the opportunity to use PureArts’ skills to create an incredible line of collectibles with BAYC IP Holders.”

Revealed during Art Basel Miami, the statues are slated to ship in May 2023 with free pickup available for those attending the upcoming ApeFest in New York.

With the initial lawsuit against Ryder Ripps still ongoing, the settlement agreement reached with the spin-off project’s developer, Thomas Lehman, doesn’t address any of the crucial issues inherent to trademark infringement/digital collectibles – but may be communicating something much more problematic.
