PayPal To Partner With MetaMask for Crypto Integrations
With Ethereum as the first supported chain and primarily available to select U.S. users.
On Wednesday, December 14, ConsenSys, the company behind MetaMask, announced that PayPal aims to “seamlessly integrate within the MataMask wallet,” in an effort to provide customers the ability to purchase cryptocurrency — primarily only Ethereum at the time of the announcement.
The new function is currently being rolled out to select customers in the U.S. with a broader U.S.-based release said to be taking place in the coming weeks.
Ethereum Integration
Recently surpassing over 30 million monthly active users, MetaMask is currently the largest and most popular Web3 wallet — primarily for its early arrival on the scene and choice of Ethereum as its main chain, making it the choice for many who use sites like OpenSea.
Now, through its integration with PayPal, users will be able to purchase Ethereum from within the app using PayPal’s services — making it the first Web3 wallet to partner with the payments giant and effectively creating a more convent on-ramp for transactions.
With the integration, users will be able to save time, fees, and swap disadvantages that they might experience trying to top up a wallet on centralized exchanges. It also creates a lower barrier to entry to the space, providing ease of access to DAOs, DeFi applications, Web3 Gaming, NFT marketplaces, and much more.
“This integration with PayPal will allow our U.S. users to not just buy crypto seamlessly through MetaMask, but also to easily explore the Web3 ecosystem,” said MetaMask Product Manager Lorenzo Santos.
Our US users will now be able to fund their wallet with ETH via @PayPal! ?
Rolling out in the next weeks in the US, excl. Hawaii, through our mobile app (make sure to update to v5.13.0)??https://t.co/392JwFYF3m

To add crypto to a MetaMask wallet using PayPal, users should first log into the Mobile MetaMask app, click on the “buy” button, and then select PayPal. From there they can enter the desired dollar amount worth of Ether and will then be directed to log in to PayPal.
Once logged in the user will simply buy the crypto through PayPal or if they hold the necessary ETH amount to complete the transaction they can send without buying more — that’s all there is to it.
With MetaMask’s 30-plus million monthly active users and PayPal’s user base of several hundred million, the integration is a significant step forward in making cryptocurrency and related products easily accessible to the masses.
