Shilly, one of the first “Community Produced Recording Artist,” has recently released his debut single, “I’m Boring,” on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and an accompanying music video on YouTube. The track was produced by Noah Berg and Matt Squire, known for their work with artists like Panic! At the Disco, Ariana Grande, and All Time Low, while HKJAY and Zen Doubt directed the video.
The singer who goes by the pseudonymous name Shilly, is a “born a jpeg” artist, making him a digital performer powered by a community of web3 musicians and storytellers. Despite this unconventional start, Shilly has ambitious goals, hoping to become the biggest rockstar in the metaverse with the help of his dedicated community.
The team behind this production includes Shilly, Josh Schwartz, and Preston Johnson, co-founder of Pixel Vault and WAGMI United. They all share their overall lifelong passions for music and have been avid participants in the web3 space since early 2021.
“Since I first learned about the capabilities of web3, I knew that it had the potential to transform the music industry by creating a stronger community connection between artists and fans. We wanted to take that further by creating the first Community Produced Recording Artist.” Shwaz, Shilly’s Manager Shared with Hypemoon.
Taking on the persona and digital identity through his bored ape , Bored Ape #6722, Shilly is one of 10,000 NFTs in the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection, created in 2021 by Yuga Labs. Those who hold these NFTs are granted full commercial rights, and Shilly is the latest example of the Bored Ape IP being used to create an original character or brand.
The use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the music industry is revolutionizing how we think about digital identities and intellectual property. NFTs allow the creation of unique, one-of-a-kind digital items that can be owned and traded just like physical items. In the music industry, this has led to the rise of digital performers, like Shilly, who are powered by NFTs and communities of web3 musicians. NFTs also allow for more control over the distribution and ownership of music and related content, giving artists greater control over their work and the ability to monetize it in new and innovative ways.
Artists like Eminem, Snoop Dog, and Cordell are utilizing their Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) IP in their musical careers, using unique and valuable NFTs to create new and exciting opportunities for themselves and their fans.
As the use of NFTs continues to grow in the music industry, we can expect to see even more exciting developments in how we think about digital identities and intellectual property.
And with that a Star is Bored. So WTF is Shilly?!

”The opportunity to be a part of a unique music-related project after founding Pixel Vault and WAGMI United in the last year and a half was refreshing. Music is why I had food on the table as a kid because my dad was one of the lucky ones that made a living in the industry. I’ve always appreciated how fortunate we were, and I’ve wanted to make sure music and creativity stayed in my life.” Preston Johnson, co-founder of Pixel Vault and WAGMI United.
Overall, “I’m Boring” is a strong debut single for Shilly, showcasing his musical abilities and the creative potential of NFTs and digital performers in the music industry. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this “born a jpeg” rockstar as he makes waves in the metaverse.
