Animoca Brands and Planet Hollywood Create New Metaverse Experience ‘MetaHollywood’

NFTs from famous pieces of film history will be available in this metaverse and will include cinematic photography, movie posters, memorabilia, and more.

Thursday, April 21, Animoca Brands, the metaverse giant behind The Sandbox announced that it will be going into a joint venture with the Planet Hollywood Group (Planet Hollywood) to launch a new Web3 world its calling “MetaHollywood.”

The goal behind MetaHollywood is to form an online community for movie lovers, studios, and creators so that they can interact in a Hollywood-themed metaverse. The metaverse will feature a unique marketplace containing digital collectibles, moments, events, and experiences that will all be powered by blockchain technology as well as a unique native token to the new world.

MetaHollywood plans to provide the opportunity for collectors to own “uniquely famous pieces of film history”, this will come in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Some of the NFTs that will be made available to users are full-length movies, clips, photography, movie posters, and iconic memorabilia. To start, Planet Hollywood will tokenize over 60,000 pieces of its most iconic motion picture memorabilia, covering a wide range of genres. Many of the physical items these collectibles are based off have been used by movie stars like Sylvester Stallone, Michael J. Fox, Toby Maguire, and more.

In regards to the joint venture, Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, said “NFTs are an excellent form of storing culture, and Planet Hollywood owns some of the most fascinating moments in human pop culture. We are very excited to partner with Robert Earl and Planet Hollywood to bring this iconic brand into the rapidly growing world of Web3.”
