In a tweet Tuesday, May 17, Getty Images announced that it will be releasing NFTs in partnership with digital collectible company Candy Digital, using the Palm blockchain for minting.

Since its founding in 1995, Getty Images has curated a portfolio of over 465 million images. The brand plans to use its collection of iconic moments from the history of art, culture, music, and politics to create its NFT collections.

To achieve its goals, Getty has entered an exclusive multi-year partnership with Candy Digital, a next-gen technology company that specializes in the development of licensed digital collectibles.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Getty Images to develop NFT products that creatively bring these iconic and rare photographs from the last two centuries to life for people to experience and collect in a new digital format,” said Scott Lawin, the CEO of Candy Digital.

The first NFT offerings will be derived from Getty Images’ owned content and will become available in the coming months. The platform adds more than 30 million new digital assets to its site each year, presenting new opportunities to develop contemporary collections with Candy Digital in the future.

The partners have decided to utilize the Palm NFT Studio blockchain, which claims it is 99% more energy-efficient than proof-of-work-based blockchain networks. Existing partners of the environmentally-conscious platform include Warner Brothers, MetaMask, Chainlink, DC, and more.

In blockchain news, Robinhood announced plans for a zero fee multichain Web3 wallet.
