Elon Musk Says SpaceX Will Accept Dogecoin For Merchandise

Following Tesla’s lead which began accepting Doge in January.

In a tweet Friday, May 27, Elon Musk shared that SpaceX merchandise will soon be eligible for purchase using the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, following the lead of Tesla which began accepting the token in January.

The price of DOGE went up 8% immediately following the announcement, from a price of $0.078 USD to roughly $0.084 USD. This has become somewhat of an expected outcome as a result of tweets like these by the billionaire.

Musk has been very active in the space over the last few months, mostly with his ongoing deal to acquire Twitter in an effort to rid it of Crypto and NFT bots. The billionaire made an initial offering of $44 billion USD which gained the support and financial endorsement of cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance. As of now, the deal is reportedly stalled pending research, with many in the community speculating that a better price is likely being negotiated — the deal still has the confidence of Twitter’s current CEO Parag Agrawal who believes it will still go through.

Earlier this week the billionaire also made headlines, this time as a result of a deepfake video that was designed to fool unknowing viewers into a cryptocurrency scam. Musk was quick to comment that it was definitely not him. Fortunately, enough people in the community were able to identify the video for what it was and share it with a warning to be on the lookout for such phishing schemes.

Under the announcement of SpaceX accepting Doge, one Twitter user asked if the cryptocurrency will be accepted for payment of the company’s Starlink subscription offering, to which Musk replied “maybe one day.”
