Axie Infinity Sees Signs of a Comeback With Sales Up 200%

Following its recovery from one of the largest hacks in the NFT space.

Axie Infinity is showing signs of a potential comeback with sales of its NFTs up nearly 200% in the last week. The promising news follows a Development Update that the brand recently shared regarding a new game type.

Axie Infinity is considered to be the largest NFT project of all time based on its trading volume alone and has also been the victim of one of the largest hacks in the space, resulting in over $600 million USD being exploited from its Ronin bridge — despite this, it continues to recover and rebuild.

The Ronin bridge, like other crypto bridges, is a protocol that enables digital assets to travel between blockchains, whether in the form of cryptocurrency or an NFT. The Ronin bridge specifically allows for funds to be transferred between the Ronin and Ethereum blockchains.

In late June, Axie announced the reopening of its Ronin bridge, marking a step forward for the blockchain-based game.

The game’s uptick in sales, reaching over 200% according to data from CryptoSlam, could be a result of its newly announced pivot from Play-to-Earn to “Play-and-Earn.” The concept comes in the form of a new release by the name of “Origins,” which is still in its early phases and has a global release planned for the near future.

In Origin, users can play for free with an Axie Infinity account and by downloading the Sky Mavis Hub. The new game features highly-requested updates like sequential turns, new mechanics, and stylized gameplay. Users wishing to earn an income in the form of the game’s native SLP token will still need to purchase NFTs from the Axie marketplace.

The NFT game has also been hard at work on a number of other initiatives including Land staking, a developer program, and continued Esports grants.

In other news, GameStop launches an NFT marketplace beta.
