PSG Football Club Is Selling NFT Tickets With VIP Experiences To Mark Japan Tour
Aiming to solidify football’s presence in Web3.
French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced on Monday, July 11, that it will be selling VIP NFT tickets on its website to mark its first Japan tour in 27 years.
The NFTs, according to the team’s website, will only be available through July 16.
The three limited VIP tickets are priced at approximately $218,000 USD (30 million yen), which will provide special access to the stadium’s VIP watch room and Tokyo party, including a meet-and-greet with PSG players Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar Júnior.
In addition to the VIP NFT tickets, a commemorative NFT collection will also be released, which, according to PSG, will include video and graphic formats featuring PSG players wearing their team’s new jerseys.
The industry’s previous attempts at tokenizing sports clubs and experiences have been somewhat difficult and challenging for fans in terms of utility. However, PSG hopes that these NFT ticket sales can help solidify the football industry’s mark in Web3, providing tangible experiences and utilities for the team’s biggest supporters.
“It’s the first time that we have made such a large collection of NFTs available to fans of the club and of Jay Chou worldwide,” said PSG chief brand officer Fabien Allègre. “With time, these NFTs will find their usefulness within our common ground project in the metaverse.”
Last month, the French football club announced its “Tiger Champs” NFT collection in partnership with Crypto.com, collaborating with Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou to develop an NFT collection to commemorate its 10th league victory and year of the tiger.
In March, PSG began its Web3 immersion by filing a trademark application that includes protections for NFTs that are tied to downloadable audio and video recordings featuring sports highlights, consumer-based goods, including team merchandise and spectacles for use offline or in online virtual worlds, downloadable computer software for managing crypto transactions using blockchain technology, crypto hardware wallets, and downloadable image files containing trading cards and artwork.
PSG joins other football clubs, including Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Rangers, Juventus, and FC Barcelona in issuing NFTs.
