Yuga Lab's Otherside Metaverse Begins Testing Ahead of ‘First Trip’
Bringing together over 2,500 community holders into the virtual space.
The project, a partnership with Animoca Brands, was first announced in March. Ahead of its April launch, the company expressed its desire to “build something that expands the universe of the BAYC, but also invites the larger NFT community (and those priced out of BAYC membership) to join.”
Yuga Labs conducted a virtual land sale for the project through one of the largest NFT mints to date, bringing in $561 million USD in less than 24 hours. The increased traction from the ”Otherdeed” NFT mint caused gas fees to surge and crashed data analytics platform Etherscan.
As an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), Otherside helps BAYC holders turn their NFTs into playable characters — bridging its native metaverse with Bored Ape intellectual property (IP).
Wednesday’s test, which lasted for approximately 25 minutes, attracted over 2,500 community holders, who had the opportunity to gauge the platform’s current capabilities ahead of its formal launch on July 16.
“Thanks everyone who came out to stress test this,” said BAYC co-founder Garga.eth in a tweet. “Had about 2.5k concurrent users running around in the neutral space. Tons of great info compiled to make sure First Trip goes smoothly, and taking all your notes from Discord as well.”
While awaiting the public “First Trip,” the second stress test for Otherside is scheduled to take place Saturday, July 9, at 12 p.m. EST.
