HNDSM Reveals Its CryptoPunk Capsule With Punk #1338 Merchandise

Leveraging CryptoPunk’s newly issued commercial rights to create new “phygital” ventures based on the collection’s artwork.

New York’s lifestyle brand, HNDSM (pronounced ‘Handsome’), has launched its initial CryptoPunks capsule using the NFT collection’s recently issued commercial IP rights from parent company, Yuga Labs.

HNDSM presents a new line of graphic shirts, hooded sweatshirts, and candles all featuring CryptoPunk #1338 – currently owned and held by HNDSM co-founder, AJ Jamani.

Punk 1338’s NFT artwork is printed onto the capsule’s merchandise, categorizing it as the latest addition to the “phygital” realm.

This latest merchandise drop comes after Monday’s announcement by Yuga Labs, which now grants all owners of the CryptoPunks collection commercial rights.

Indeed, holders of the collection have already begun crafting their own derivative projects or, in this case, physical products – leveraging their individual Punk’s intellectual property.

“After endless searching through the CryptoPunks marketplace, I connected most to Punk 1338. It means a lot to see my skin tone represented in the art and I love his smile which is a fairly rare trait found in only 2% of Punks,” shared Jamani.

HNDSM’s new line of clothing focuses on high-quality unisex apparel with simple designs. The shirts feature the wording “HODL ME.” on the product’s front, which HNDSM explains is “an endearing way for Punk 1338 to say ‘hold on and never let go.’”

The slogan, “Be Well,” can also be found printed on the candle’s containers, turning attention towards Web3’s stance towards mental health.

“The ‘Be Well’ messaging on the candle serves as a reminder to take time for grounding and balance outside of the digital space,” the press release stated.

CryptoPunks was one of the first NFT projects to be launched on Ethereum’s blockchain in June 2017. Given the collection’s earliest influence over the NFT space, CryptoPunks remains historical and powerful for the Web3 community in its drive to continue pushing the utility and parameters by which Punks are utilized in everyday life.

“My energy for the world of NFTs reminds me of what I felt screen-printing those first HNDSM t-shirts in our dorm room years ago. It’s the special early days of a new passion,” Jamani posted to Instagram.

The cross-section of NFTs with apparel clothing is a clear indicator of where the future of fashion is starting to go, as phygitals become more common in the retail space.
