Disney Celebrates 100 Years with Immersive Experience in London

The Walt Disney Company is celebrating its 100th anniversary with unique and immersive experiences, with the main event being  “Wonder of Friendship: The Experience.”

Taking place in London from May 12 to 21, the experience will offer visitors a journey through 1,000 square meters of installations inspired by classic Disney stories like Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King, Mickey & Friends, and Lilo & Stitch — with modern AR and VR twists, according to reports from campaign UK.

The experience includes immersive spaces like the “Garden of Mystery,” inspired by Alice in Wonderland, where visitors will encounter towering flowers, “bread-and-butterflies”, and the Queen’s Card Guards.

Visitors to Lilo & Stitch’s Ohana Bay will experience more tropical scenes, and those who visit the Lion King’s jungle-themed Orchestral Oasis room will have the chance to meet characters like Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa.

Possibly one of the highlights of the experience is the Mickey & Friends Wonderverse room, where guests can check out life-sized statues of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and more.

Taking things into a metaverse of sorts, the experience encourages visitors to use Snapchat’s AR filters to bring Disney characters to life, and can also visit various retail pop-ups, including an experience powered by Creator Studio, where they can create an original piece of clothing using augmented reality technology.

Early ticket access is said to be available for H&M members in the UK and France for two weeks from January 25 to February 8, with General tickets for London, Paris, and Berlin going on sale February 9, for £17.50 per person or roughly $21 USD.

“Throughout our one hundred years, Disney stories have shown the importance of friendship and appreciating the differences in others, so we couldn’t think of a better theme to celebrate our milestone anniversary,” shared Sarah Fox,  the vice-president of marketing and comms at Disney Consumer Products, EMEA.

While not its most Web3 feat yet, considering its previous partnerships with Polygon and metaverse music experience of 2022, Disney does still seem to be keeping an open mind towards emerging tech and looking for ways to implement it into its experiences.
