SUPERPLASTIC Teams Up With Mercedes-Benz to Launch Limited Edition Collectible

Reinterpreting the luxury automotive brands iconic “nodding dog” ornament.

Luxury automotive brand Mercedes-Benz is teaming up with SUPERPLASTIC, the entertainment brand known for its high-profile collaborations and limited collectible releases.

To kick things off, SUPERPLASTIC has reinterpreted the brand’s iconic “Wackeldackel” or “nodding dog” dash ornament — with both a digital and physical representation, named Superdackel.

The collaboration also acts as an introduction of this new character to the SUPERPLASTIC universe. Superdackel will be displayed as a 2.5-meter (8.2ft)physical figure at the tech event CES 2023, from January 6 to January 8.

The two also created an animated short film that features SUPERPLASTIC’s main characters Janky and Guggimon “borrowing” a vehicle from a Mercedes-Benz showroom floor to take on a joy ride, only to discover Wackeldackel in the car.

Together, the three zoom through moonlit New York City streets, get into car chases and encounter UFOs. As Wackeldackel spends time with Janky and Guggimon he is then transformed into the newly interpreted character Superdackel.

“Mercedes-Benz has reinvented and reinterpreted its brand and vehicles for a modern, digital era – so why shouldn’t the iconic Wackeldackel receive an update, too? We warmly welcome Superdackel to the Mercedes-Benz family,” shared Bettina Fetzer, Vice President of Communications & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz AG in a press release.

Having been a fan of the Wackeldackel “forever,” and having one on the dash of his vintage Mercedes 230CE, SUPERPLASTIC Founder and CEO Paul Budnitz said the offer to bring the character into the SUPERPLASTIC world was an immediate “YES.”

“The Wackeldackel is a pop-culture and car-fanatic icon, and it’s been exciting to be able to reinvent him for a new era. The opportunity to evolve a character like the Wackeldackel for a new generation has been an amazing experience for the SUPERPLASTIC team” shared Budnitz.

He added, “we love forcing brands out of their protective shell but Mercedes has been a fantastic collaborator, and this partnership has been very symbiotic. Janky, Guggimon, and other animated celebrities in the SUPERPLASTIC universe get to cruise the world in the greatest luxury cars on earth while introducing the new-and-improved Superdackel to millions of their fans.”

SUPERPLASTIC and Mercedes hinted that there is a lot in store for Superdackle and his companions in 2023 and that followers should keep an eye out for more soon.

In other news, Tiffany & Co NFTiffs pendants have arrived and holders are flexing their CryptoPunks “off-chain.”
