Amazon Invests Millions into Animated Creative Studio Superplastic
Opening the door for its leading virtual celebrities, Janky and Guggimon, to possibly get their own Prime series.
Superplastic has announced that Amazon’s Alexa Fund is the leading contributor in its recent Series A-4 funding round of $20 million USD — bringing the total investment value raised by the creative studio to over $58 million USD.
The investment is said to fund the development of a new Prime Video original series called “The Janky & Guggimon Show”, featuring two of Superplastic’s most famous virtual celebrities, according to first reports from Forbes.

The show follows the adventures of “two lazy and spectacularly incompetent best friends who are hell-bent on getting rich and famous but leave a trail of chaos and destruction in their wake.” The series is also said to feature a cast of animated and human celebrity friends — something the brand is known for through its collaborations with names like Tommy Hilfiger, Paris Hilton, J. Balvin, and more.
“Superplastic’s universe of synthetic celebrities have earned a cult following in every medium they’ve touched,” shared the brand’s CEO Paul Budnitz in a comment to Forbes. This includes partnerships and products in the realms of social media, music, gaming, high-end collectibles, fashion, animated entertainment, NFTs, and live experiences.
Some of the brand’s most recent collabs have taken place with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Gucci, Fortnite, and Mercedes Benz.
Budnitz shared that “the new collaboration partnership with Amazon Studios reaches a massive audience and provides a new playground for us to wreak havoc worldwide. We’re grateful for the investment the Amazon Alexa Fund gave us to help us continue to grow the Superplastic Universe,” according to a report by Variety.
The development of “The Janky & Guggimon Show” follows Superplastic’s success in building the characters into social media stars, with Janky having 1 million Instagram followers and Guggimon having 1.5 million. Superplastic’s synthetic celebrities continue to gain popularity, and the new investment from Amazon’s Alexa Fund will expand Superplastic’s universe of characters to an even wider audience.
