Crypto and NFT Communities Band Together to Raise Aid for Turkey and Syria
With donations being organized by top exchanges and creators in the face of catastrophic destruction caused by earthquakes in the region.
The crypto community has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts by pledging over $9 million in donations to aid the victims of the devastating earthquakes that recently struck Turkey and Syria.
While no amount of money could ever make up for the lives lost, which is now reported to be 11,000 according to the New York Times, it is the hope of platforms like Binance, Tether, Bitfinex, OKX, Kucoin and more to at the very least help ease the suffering of survivors — as well as to aid in recovery and rebuilding efforts.
In addition to collective donations by these leading crypto platforms, the Avalanche Foundation has also donated $1 million USD in AVAX tokens, with its Executive Director Aytunç Yıldızlı stating “Turkey is close to the heart of the Avalanche Foundation and community, and the funds will help people recover faster in the wake of this tragedy,” in a comment to Decrypt.
He added that “it is time to come together and show that crypto is a force for good and a sign of hope for all of us hurting.”
This is not the first time the crypto community has come together to support those in need. In February 2022, several prominent names in the crypto industry, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, sent millions in donations to support the Ukraine Government and NGOs operating in the area after Russia’s invasion.
Other examples can be seen in the efforts of the NFT community through groups like Pussy Riot’s Unicorn DAO and RELI3F — which collectively raised millions of dollars in aid.
In the case of Turkey and Syria, a significant number of individual creators have stepped up to raise aid, with names like Refik Anadol and Jack Butcher leading by example.

At the time of writing, the ETH wallet launched by Anadol currently holds over $156,000 USD in ETH value, with the latest update from Jack Butcher reporting over $100,000 USD raised.
Both the crypto and NFT communities have shown time and time again that digital assets are an effective tool to quickly raise and deploy needed aid in times of crisis.
It is worth repeating again, that the aid raised will never come close to making up for the devastating loss of life that has taken place — though it is hopeful that it can be used to mitigate further loss and ease the suffering of those who will need to rebuild their structures and lives.
Both Anadol and Butcher’s funds are still open for donations should you feel compelled to help, links are located in the tweets above.
