Coinbase Announces Three Major Web3 Infrastructure Tools in Two Weeks
Covering areas like dapp development, wallet solutions for traditional brands, and Web3 discovery — as it continues its push to onboard the next 100 million users.
Just two weeks after the launch of its developer-friendly decentralized app layer-2 Base, Coinbase has announced two additional offerings, all part of its primary goal to onboard the next one hundred million users into Web3 and the next one billion users into the crypto-economy.
On March 8, the leading crypto exchange announced the launch of its Wallet as a Service offering, with the goal of easing adoption through seamless wallet integrations to existing companies and brands — in hopes their user base will be able to reap the benefits crypto offers even if they have never interacted with the asset class before.

According to a recent tweet from Coinbase, Wallet as a Service is a set of wallet infrastructure APIs that enable companies to create and deploy fully customizable on-chain wallets. With authentication as simple as a username and password, users can create, access, and restore their wallets without needing to worry about seed phrases.
One of the key features of wallets deployed using the service is advanced multi-party computation (MPC) for added security. This helps keep user assets safe by securely dividing, encrypting, and distributing keys among multiple parties.
Already, the service is being used by companies like Floor, Tokenproof, Thirdweb, and Moonraygame, to enhance experiences in gaming, events, and marketplaces through Web3 mechanisms.
Coinbase isn’t done with its roll of major announcements though, additionally, it revealed on March 10, a new “Web3 discovery surface” — which it tweeted is a tool that can be used to discover the best decentralized applications (dapps) Web3 has to offer, from crypto to NFTs.

At the time of writing, the new tool is primarily centered around Ethereum and Polygon-based dapps but the exchange hinted that additional chain support will be coming soon. As it stands now, users can use any wallet that a dapp supports or use Coinbase’s web3 wallet to transact directly with their Coinbase account for ease and convenience.
The introduction of Wallet as a Service and the new Web3 discovery surface is a major step towards making Web3 more accessible to the masses by decreasing risk and complexity. By removing these barriers to entry, Coinbase hopes to bring the benefits of blockchain technology to a wider audience, be it crypto-curious individuals or companies.
In other news, a draft of Crypto’s most hopeful regulatory bill is to be released in April.
