Could Artificial Intelligence Soon Disrupt the Modeling World?

One startup, Deep Agency, believes that it could at the very least make it more accessible, with 100% AI-generated models, scenes, and outfits.

After months of work, artificial intelligence (AI) startup entrepreneur Danny Postma has announced the public launch of his latest offering, Deep Agency.

Deep Agency is an AI-powered photo studio and modeling agency that relies completely on AI, using no cameras, real people, or physical locations. Instead, everything is generated using the latest text-to-image models for photo generation, according to a recent tweet from the founder.

In addition to generating “fake” models, users can also upload photos of themselves to create digital clones that can be displayed as models in a variety of settings.

The modeling process works by selecting a model, and a pose, as well as filling out a description of how you’d like the desired scene to look. From there the AI does all the work, similar to the way you can create art using programs like Midjourney or DALL-E.

Should you decide to go the route of digitizing yourself, the platform requires 20 selfies, from which it will render you a virtual twin in roughly 30 minutes. Once generated, you can use the digital twin the same way you would the available models, with Postma stating that the tech could be useful for anything from social media content to e-commerce product photography.

While optimistic about its future use cases, Postma did share that as the offering is still in beta, “things will break.” For that reason, Deep Agency is offering a limited launch discount, with details available on their site, as well as free trial access for all that includes up to 20 photo generations.

Although there are still limits to what AI can do, examples like Deep Agency show the potential the technology has to disrupt entire markets, even creative ones, with this particular case making what is usually a costly process accessible to the average person or brand.

Additionally, AI models open up the door to increased inclusion and representation, with one recent example of this being shown in AI artist Malik Afegbua’s Fashion Show For the Seniors. The show depicted a variety of subjects, scenes, and outfits, all generated by AI — with many viewers of the images believing they had come from a real-life show.
