BLOND:ISH and Evolution Music Unveil World's First Biodegradable Vinyl
Along with an NFT collectible of the artist’s “Life is…” track, which will be available to mint on Sound.xzy.
Renowned DJ and environmental activist, BLOND:ISH, is soon to release the world’s first biodegradable PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) Vinyl titled #Plastic Free Party. The release is made possible through a partnership with vinyl R&D experts at Evolution Music and DeepGrooves — the release will also include an NFT collectible via sound.xyz.
The 14-track vinyl to be released on BLOND:ISH’s label ABRACADABRA, is entirely bio-based and will naturally break down in any environment, including the ocean. Made using naturally occurring bacteria to create a plastic replica, the vinyl is a result of PHAs, a new type of bioplastic family.
In contrast to most pressing plants that use water-intensive steam boilers and chemicals, DeepGrooves is a 100% circular factory powered by green energy, green gas, and solar energy. They use calcium zinc stabilizers instead of traditional heavy metal stabilizers, significantly reducing greenhouse emissions.
Curated in partnership with Chambord, #Plastic Free Party showcases BLOND:ISH’s passion for the environment and features tracks from various artists. In addition to the vinyl release, a collectible NFT of BLOND:ISH’s “Life is…”, the opening track of #PlasticFreeParty, will be available on sound.xyz.
The pre-sale for the NFT, starts today, April 5, with the official drop taking place on April 11. Collectibles are priced at 0.04 ETH (roughly $76 USD at the time of writing) and will be available as a timed edition lasting 72 hours. Following the mint, each NFT sold will be eligible to be redeemed for a physical copy of the biodegradable vinyl.
Beyond being a DJ, BLOND:ISH has spent her career focused on wellness, eco-activism, and tech, all united through purpose — with #Plastic Free Party being the latest example of this. Other eco efforts from the entrepreneur include her Bye Bye Plastic Foundation, which aims to accelerate the transition to a plastic-free music industry.
Through these efforts, to date, Bye Bye Plastic has salvaged roughly 5.7 tons of plastic from the environment and has inspired over 1,500 DJs and event promoters worldwide to join the movement.
