Marvel Studios Founder David Maisel Launches Genesis 1/1 Art Collection With Mythos Studios Ahead of Iron Man's 15th Anniversary
Launching a collection, that for the first time, will include 1/1 published color art as well as new 1/1 pieces inspired by a variety of influences, including classic Marvel comics and films.
Mythos Studios, an IP entertainment studio founded by David Maisel, the founder and executive chairman of Marvel Studios, announced the launch of the Ekos Genesis Art Collection, which marks the studios second art offering in collaboration with acclaimed artists Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald.
The new digital art collection, which is now available to view on ekos.io, follows Mythos Studios’ first successful art collection drop — the Ekos Prologue Art Collection — back in May 2021, which featured a two-piece digital 1/1 collection that sold for $100,000 USD. The collection showcased original line art from Turner, in addition to original published colors from the cover of Turner’s iconic 1998 best-selling comic issue of “Fathom.”
Turner, whose art spans across the DC Comics and Marvel Comics universes, was tapped by Marvel Comics for a work-for-hire deal in August 2005 where he designed the covers for six issues, including covers for the miniseries Civil War and Wolverine: Origins, in addition to past work on issues including The Flash, Identity Crisis, and Superman/Batman six-issue Supergirl story arc.
He later joined with Steigerwald to launch Aspen Comics. Mythos Studios, according to CoinDesk, owns a 50% stake in Aspen Comics.
The Genesis Collection comprises all 1/1 original, hand-crafted pieces of digital art, with each piece consisting of Turner’s original line work. For the first time, this collection will include 1/1 published color art as well as new 1/1 pieces inspired by a variety of influences, including classic Marvel comics and films, the Pop Art movement, Marvel’s iconic black light posters of the 70’s, the neon lights of Broadway, and the art and energy of Web3.
“We’ve worked so hard to create this Ekos Genesis Art Collection and we’re now extremely excited to give people a chance to own this Ekos inspired 1/1 original hand-crafted digital art – this wouldn’t be possible without web3,” said Marvel Studios founder David Maisel in a press release shared with Hypemoon.
On April 24, the pre-auction deposit period will open, beginning at 10am PT, where collectors will be able to place an early deposit of 10 ETH that will allow them to secure at least one piece of 1/1 original hand-crafted digital art from the Genesis Art Collection, with a maximum of give per digital wallet.
However, Mythos Studios says this will only happen “provided all 995 pieces of Ekos Genesis Art have not yet been allocated.”
Commemorating 15 Years of “Iron Man”
Coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the release of “Iron Man,” Mythos Studio says it will be hosting an 88-minute, Dutch-style auction on May 2, with a starting price of 10 ETH.
For Marvel Studios, “Iron Man” was more than just a Hollywood hit, it was the studio’s first in-house major film that had a lot to prove to fans, given most of the other acclaimed comic book characters like Spider-Man and X-Men were already in play by other major Hollywood studios.
And of course, Iron Man debuted with a $98.6 million USD domestic opening, going on to earn $585.4 million USD worldwide, starting what would be a long, successful line of 27 (and counting) subsequent films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
