YuYu's "GAG" Exhibition Unveils In Paris: A Bold and Provocative Critique of Modern Society's Power Dynamics

The exhibition examines the complex interplay of power dynamics in modern societies amidst ongoing debates surrounding control, power, and identity.

Renowned artist YuLiang Liu, also known as YuYu, is set to unveil his latest exhibition, “GAG,” at the IHAM Gallery in Paris from May 10th to May 20th.  Given the ongoing societal debates surrounding identity, power, and control, the “GAG” exhibition arrives at a particularly pertinent time. By exploring the intricate power dynamics in contemporary society, the exhibition delves into an increasingly relevant and thought-provoking critical theme.

YuYu, a Berlin-based artist, has crafted three captivating digital collages that explore the concept of the ‘tortured genius’ related to religion, politics, and the self.  Born in Taiwan, YuYu’s artistic journey began when he relocated to Europe and began exploring his identity as a queer Asian in Western society. His work examines the struggles and personal issues often associated with creative output and exposes the underlying hierarchies between the artist and society. Through the concept of the ‘tortured genius,’ YuYu seeks to highlight how power is wielded and controlled in different contexts.

This immersive exhibition incorporates video art elements, a soundscape produced in partnership with London-based music producer MarcelDune, and an interesting play with the lighting set up to transform the space into something uniquely YuYu. The artist’s exploration of the underground club and BDSM cultures push conventional art’s boundaries and offer a modern perspective on beauty while critiquing elitist and theological attitudes toward art.

“GAG is about disguised power dynamics in contemporary societies”, says YuYu. “I want  to exaggerate the idea of the “tortured genius” and explore the changing relationships and  the impact it generates both within the art word but also society at large.”

In addition to the exhibition, IHAM Gallery and the artist will organize panel discussions with leading figures in the web3 space. These discussions will explore the future of art in the digital realm, a prevalent topic now throughout the traditional and digital art space.

This exhibition is presented in partnership with IHAM Gallery and SuperRare, the leading curated platform for digital art.IHAM Gallery, situated in the heart of Paris, specializes in contemporary art and aims to showcase innovative works to a wider audience
